Skin conditions can affect both dogs and cats; some are easier to treat than others. One visit to the vet and some topical medication may be needed if your pet has an itch. Your dog or cat could need more than one inspection or consultation, as well as a more aggressive treatment regimen, if they suffer from chronic itching or alopecia (hair loss).

Don't let your pet scratch themselves for too long. It is better to detect and treat animal skin conditions as soon as possible. Some pet skin conditions can be easily treated by the veterinarian if they are basic allergies (having a pet can be like having a child). Some illnesses could be more persistent and call for lab work, blood work, or even biopsies.
